Melbourne to Adelaide, or just the classical round trip via the Great Ocean Road, is one of the most popular campervan trips out of Victoria’s capital city. Heading to Adelaide, there are a few options – along the coast or or via the “hinterland” – we will focus today on the Great Ocean Drive…
Your first destination should definitely be Apollo Bay – drive along Torquay, the beginning of the Great Ocean Road and famous for its beaches/surfing culture – until you get to your destination Apollo Bay. This is also the start of the famous 12 Apostles – from here you can even treck to the 12 Apostles. While you in Apollo Bay enjoy the famous Otway National Park (check out the Otway Fly Treetop Advenure), enjoy the water activities or just tan on the beach
Stop 2Port Fary
You now be traveling along the Great Ocean Road and experience the magnificent views – just breathtaking! Take your time and enjoy the views – take plenty of photos – and stay overnight in Port Fary – an old-coastal town!
Stop 3Mount Gambier
There are two reasons to stop at Mount Gambier – check out the Blue Lake (crater of an extinct volcano) as well as the The Old Mount Gambier Gaol – a prison that has been converted to a hostel – you can even sleep in your own van and just use their facilities.
Stop 4Adelaide via the Coast line
Head towards your final destination via the coastal cities Beachport, Robe & Kingston – it is pretty much all about the views and beach/water activities – don’t forget to say hello to the BIG LOBSTER!
Final StopKangaroo Island
Ok – this is a bit of a long-one but if you have your vehicle and got time definitely put it on your radar for a visit. The nature, wildlife & scenery won’t disappoint!
