8. Midnight Oil – Beds Are Burning

If you haven’t tried out some lead singer Peter Garrett-style dance moves around the campfire (or at least in the privacy of your own campervan) you haven’t really had the complete Australian road trip experience.

After a four-year hiatus from the music scene, Silverchair returned with this beauty. Just try and drive in straight lines while listening.

There were far too many Powderfinger songs to choose from this popular Aussie rock band, but in the end we had to narrow it down to one. And what a choice!

5. Hunters and Collectors – Throw Your Arms Around Me

Taking the pace down a notch, this 1984 classic is perfect for a sunset drive.

4. Crowded House – Don’t Dream it’s Over

Whether you’re travelling Australia in sunshine or rain, the heat of summer or even during winter, this song should be on your playlist. Although not technically from Australia, they have been adopted by their Tasman cousins (sorry Kiwis).

Probably the biggest band to come out of Australia – INXS is an Australian institution and loved by generations.

Although a song about the Vietnam province, this song will always be a favourite in campervans and motorhomes on the road.

Yes, we had to. We’ve written before about the many benefits of travelling Australia in a campervan, but one we may have forgotten is that no one else has to know about this guilty pleasure!
